What to look for when choosing a Wedding DJ:

Make sure they are insured;
-- Ask to see their proof of insurance, you want them to be covered with Liability and Equipment Coverage.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We are fully Insured, we carry a large Liability and equipment policy.

Make sure they are Registered Business in the State Of Michigan
--If you are writing checks to a person and not a business, RUN! When it comes to businesses they are going to protect their names at all costs, Better Business Bureau and Social media give you tools to post scams or performance issues, if you are just dealing with someone personally they can take your money and run, and you would have to hire an attorney to try and chase them down, if you can find them.

--If they are registered with the State of Michigan you can also see their history of filings so you know they are reputable and have had a history of being in business.

--There are a ton of “fly by night” DJ companies popping up, utilizing unregistered names, or psuedo names to gain                   notoriety, but in reality these companies don’t exist, and could shut down tomorrow without you having recourse.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We have been a registered business in Michigan since 2004, and have excellent reviews, and a            proven name in the industry.

Check their reviews, both on Social Media and ask for references.
--Some companies out there will have fake reviewers so make sure you check thoroughly; you deserve the best for your special day!
CCDJS RESPONSE: We know what it takes to build confidence with our customers, and we have the Reviews to                  back it up, all from great clients spanning over 13 years! We also have a list of references we give couples on request.

Make sure they have back-up Equipment
--We get called weekly with couples frantically looking for a DJ last minute because their DJ said their equipment was stolen, flooded, or another excuse.

--Many “Wedding DJs” have just some lights, a personal laptop, and powered speakers -- Make sure they have redundant plans, and double of everything they have, and further make sure the equipment is dedicated for DJing. Surprisingly there are companies out there that RENT equipment, how scary is that.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We upgrade our equipment every year! We always carry double, if not triple of everything on our           wedding rigs. We also have 2 separate storage facilities, to ensure we are always able to deliver!

How many DJs do they have? Is there a sick policy?
--You don’t want your special day to get ruined by someone being sick or happened to break their leg the previous day, make sure there is a plan if something happens.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We have a staff of 7 DJs and growing, and we never schedule more then 3 shows a day, so we              always have subs waiting in the wings incase something happens.

Ask to see their Paperwork.
--They should have a PLAN, and you should not have to write down names on a napkin at the Grand Entrance, nor have a disorganized process, if they have experience they should have it well organized and on a form.
CCDJS RESPONSE: Over the last 13 years we have continued to develop and improve our Wedding Plan, as trends             and traditions change, so does our plan, to ensure you can outline your night exactly how you dreamed it to be.

Watch for Upcharging!
--This is a huge issue we see in our competitors, their initial price seems low, then you start getting into the “extras” which normally should just always be in a wedding package.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We book by event, and our package is complete. We have some add-ons, but those are just                 extras you might want ie; projectors, uplighting, tv screens. Our job is to make your night a success, so if your guests             are still having an amazing time, & you still have the venue longer, we even keep the party going at no additional cost.

Make sure you meet your DJ?
--A lot of companies do the bait and switch tactic. They have you go over your details with someone else, that then relay that to the DJ, you want to get to know your DJ, and the DJ should want to get to know you, this is how they cater the night exactly to you.
CCDJS RESPONSE: With us you will always meet your DJ, because we want your day to go perfect and want to hear          every detail, especially the ones that matter most to you. We want you comfortable with your DJ so he can help you                make your day perfect!

They should always plan to meet with you right before your wedding
--
They should meet you in person, go over your songs and names, to make sure everything goes perfect. You don’t want a DJ showing up that is a stranger, with no idea your music selection or how to pronounce your names. They should be well prepared.
CCDJS RESPONSE: We meet our couples the week of the wedding, go over the wedding plan, all the names, and                song choices, and any special requests, to make sure your day goes absolutely perfect!

I like that you mentioned to make sure that you find a DJ that has backup equipment. If something goes wrong with my DJ's equipment, I want to know that I can still have music at my wedding. My fiance and I are trying to find a DJ for our wedding. We will definitely keep these tips in mind, thanks for sharing.

One of the last things that my fiance and I need to book for our wedding is a DJ. We are not sure how to pick the best one, and we would love any tips that we can get. It was helpful to have the advice to look into their paperwork.

I have a cousin that is getting married later this year, so he is looking for a DJ for the reception. I like your point about making sure the DJ has backup equipment. You never know when something might break in the middle of the concert, so in my opinion, a real professional would be prepared.

Thanks for the tip about considering the reviews that a DJ has. It would be good to consider their reviews because it would show that others have liked their services. My husband and I are looking for a DJ, so we'll have to consider their reviews first.

My best friend will be married this year and she likes music, so she wants to have a DJ at her reception. It was explained here that when looking for a reception DJ, they should have a backup equipment for emergencies. Moreover, it's advisable to hire professionals for reception DJ.

My cousin is getting married this summer and she is looking at hiring a wedding DJ. I do agree that it is important for us to consider how they handle back up, such as having equipment standby in the event of emergencies. Since I am looking for a wedding DJ for my cousin, I will definitely keep this information in mind and choose someone experienced.
